Japan's New Submarine Boasts 1,000km Cruise Missile

The Japanese Navy has received its newest diesel-electric attack submarine, the Taigei, at a ceremony held in Kobe. This vessel represents the fifth submarine of its kind to be commissioned into service.
The Taigei is equipped with advanced Type 12 cruise missiles, boasting an impressive range exceeding 1,000 kilometers. Future upgrades may include missiles with high-speed glide vehicles, potentially extending the range to 2,000 km.
This 3,000-ton submarine measures 84 meters in length and is powered by a new type of lithium-ion battery. This innovative battery technology is designed to enhance stealth by reducing noise and enabling longer periods submerged.
Initially armed with torpedoes and Harpoon anti-ship missiles, the Taigei's potential armament is set to expand. The crew comprises approximately 70 servicemen, operating a vessel that signifies a significant advancement in Japan's underwater defense capabilities.
