Indian Army Sheds Colonial Past: Swords Out, Bandi Jacket In!

The Indian Army is actively phasing out colonial-era influences in its dress regulations, as detailed in the recently issued Army Uniforms-2026 Pamphlet. Key changes include the removal of mandatory sword carriage for Reviewing Officers and the discontinuation of archaic terminology such as 'Royal'.

In a significant step towards indigenization, the Army is introducing the Bandi jacket, an indigenous design, as part of the formal civil attire for officers. This move signifies a deliberate alignment of military traditions with India's sovereign identity.

The updated pamphlet standardizes dress regulations across the force, explicitly stating a move away from residual colonial symbols and terminology. This initiative is presented as a refinement to reflect the nation's sentiments and evolving sovereign identity.
