7 Nov
Summary
- Preparations for 2026 Republic Day Parade have begun
- Themes focus on self-reliance, indigenous innovation, and economic prosperity
- Rigorous selection process for state and ministry tableaux

As of November 7th, 2025, the preparations for the 2026 Republic Day Parade have formally begun. The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has initiated the annual selection process for tableaux from States, Union Territories, and Central Ministries to be featured in the parade.
This year, the parade will showcase two main themes: "The Mantra of Self-Reliance - Vande Mataram" and "The Mantra of Prosperity - Aatmanirbhar Bharat". These themes aim to highlight India's growing confidence in indigenous innovation, rising economic strength, and the national movement towards self-reliance.
The selection process for the tableaux will be a rigorous, multilayered one, involving six to seven rounds of meetings with an Expert Committee. Participants will be required to submit sketches, three-dimensional models, and other supporting materials, which will be evaluated based on visual appeal, thematic relevance, level of detailing, innovation, and the ability to engage and inspire the audience. Local art forms and traditional performances will also be given special consideration.
The Ministry has emphasized the importance of maintaining clarity, simplicity, and visual coherence in the tableau designs, while also ensuring that the tractor and trailer forming the base are depicted as part of the narrative. The selected participants will be required to report to the RR Camp in Delhi in late December and remain available until the end of January to ensure timely fabrication and rehearsals.
