Mystery Drones Invade Finland: Investigation Underway
29 Mar
Summary
- Two drones entered Finnish airspace and crashed Sunday morning.
- Finland's Defense Forces are investigating the drone incident.
- The drones are suspected to be Ukrainian, pending investigation.

Finland's Defense Forces are currently investigating the presence of two drones that breached the nation's airspace before crashing in the country's southeast on Sunday morning. The Air Force responded to the detection of multiple slow-moving, low-altitude objects using an F/A-18 Hornet fighter jet. One drone impacted north of Kouvola, with another falling east of the city.
Defense Minister Antti Hakkanen stated the matter is being taken very seriously, with security authorities responding immediately. The investigation is ongoing, and further details will be released once verified. This incident represents the first instance of drones entering Finnish airspace since Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine four years ago.
Prime Minister Petteri Orpo indicated that the drones are "most likely Ukraine's," though the investigation is continuing. Finland has heightened surveillance in the Gulf of Finland following recent Ukrainian drone strikes on Russia's Primorsk oil port last week.
