Businessman Stuart Carson has recounted a "nerve-wracking" ordeal after his hotel in Dubai was struck by a drone. Carson, from County Down, was staying at Fairmont The Palm Hotel when the incident occurred on Saturday. He heard loud bangs and saw Iranian missiles and drones being intercepted before the drone hit the building, causing his room to shake. Following the impact, chaotic scenes unfolded in the hotel lobby.
Carson took shelter at a nearby beach and later in the hotel's basement before relocating to a quieter hotel. His return to Northern Ireland was complicated by thousands of flight cancellations across the Middle East, stemming from United States-Israeli attacks on Iran. His original British Airways flight was cancelled, leading to a series of rebooked flights.
He eventually arrived back at Belfast City Airport on Tuesday evening, expressing relief upon realizing they were out of the danger zone during the final leg of his journey. Meanwhile, an Emirates flight carrying over 400 Irish citizens from Dubai to Dublin landed on Tuesday night, with another similar flight scheduled for Thursday. Airlines are focusing on assisting customers and those stranded in transit.
