BSF Seizes 272 Drones, Foils Smuggling Ops

Security forces have observed a significant escalation in arms-dropping attempts by ISI-backed Pakistani smugglers along the Punjab border this year. Drones are the preferred method due to lower detection risks, with the Border Security Force (BSF) in the Punjab Frontier seizing an average of 24 Pakistani drones each month.
In the period from January 1 to November 30, BSF troops were highly active, seizing a total of 272 drones. These drones were instrumental in smuggling large quantities of drugs, including 367.8kg of heroin, 19kg of ICE, and 14.5kg of opium. Additionally, 200 weapons, 3,625 rounds of ammunition, and 10.2kg of RDX/IED material were confiscated.
The increased reliance on drones for reconnaissance and airdrops has led to a decrease in human intrusions. This shift in tactics, attributed to tighter ground surveillance and the cost-effectiveness of drones, necessitates continuous technological and operational advancements by border security agencies to counter evolving cross-border criminal activities.
