On October 24, 2025, Cochin Shipyard Limited delivered the first of eight anti-submarine warfare shallow water craft, named Mahe, to the Indian Navy. Mahe is a 78-meter-long warship and the largest Indian naval vessel propelled by a diesel engine-waterjet combination.
The warship has been designed for underwater surveillance, search and rescue operations, and low-intensity maritime operations. It is capable of undertaking advanced anti-submarine warfare operations in coastal waters and has mine-laying capabilities. The induction of these ships will significantly enhance the Indian Navy's shallow water anti-submarine warfare capabilities.
Mahe has been constructed as per the classification rules of Det Norske Veritas (DNV) and features over 90% indigenous content, aligning with the government's vision of "Aatma Nirbhar Bharat" or self-reliant India. The acceptance of the vessel was signed by senior officials from Cochin Shipyard and the Indian Navy, marking a milestone in the country's indigenous shipbuilding efforts.
