The nation's oldest Flag Day parade, held on June 13, celebrated its 75th anniversary and the United States' 250th birthday with a vibrant procession. Approximately 100 units participated, showcasing military vehicles, veteran floats, and elected officials. Retired Master Sergeant Donald M. Pulda, a Gulf War veteran, had the honor of serving as the Escort to the Flag, riding in the lead vehicle.
Musical performances added to the festivities, with the 484th Army Band and the 1st Brigade Band performing before the parade, and the University of Wisconsin Badger Band and the Quantico Marine Band providing post-parade entertainment. This year's event saw a notable change in its traditional route, shifting to a more contained path along College Avenue for safety reasons.
The parade commenced at the intersection of State Street and College Avenue, proceeding east to Drew Street, a route familiar from the Appleton Christmas Parade. Organizers emphasized that safety was paramount in adjusting the route. Festivities from June 13 can be rewatched on WFRV.
