- Surrender aims to meet Union home minister's target of eradicating naxalism.

Eleven Maoists, including key leaders, surrendered to police in Kalahandi district on Sunday, bringing a collective bounty of Rs 63.25 lakh and a cache of 11 weapons. Among the surrendered were a divisional committee member and five area committee members. These cadres were active in Kalahandi, Rayagada, and Kandhamal districts.
The surrendered Maoists will receive over Rs 1.23 crore, combining the bounty and cash incentives. The arms handed over included an AK-47, an INSAS rifle, and four SLRs. Police officials highlighted this event as a reflection of diminishing left-wing extremism, attributing it to concerted operations by various security forces.
This surrender is a critical stride towards the Union home minister's objective of eradicating naxalism by March 31. The number of active armed cadres in Odisha has now significantly reduced, with many districts declared free from naxal influence. The state's rehabilitation policy will support the reintegration of these former Maoists.
