YouTube Revives Private Messaging Feature

YouTube has announced the reintroduction of its private messaging feature, a capability that was previously discontinued. The platform began testing enhanced in-app video sharing and conversation tools in November 2025, a feature that had been a top user request. This new system is now rolling out to users aged 18 and older in the United States and internationally.

Accessing the messaging function requires users to verify their age. Conversations are initiated by sending an invitation link through third-party messaging services, indicating a focus on connecting with known contacts. The 'Messages' icon within the YouTube app provides access to generate these invitation links, streamlining video sharing and discussion in one place.

YouTube emphasized its community guidelines will govern all content and messages exchanged via this feature. The company aims to provide users with a seamless way to share content, from music videos to Shorts, directly while viewing. Further expansions of the feature are anticipated in the near future, reinforcing its commitment to user-driven enhancements.
