The Yale Linus Smart Lock L2 Lite has been launched in the UK, offering a more accessible entry point into smart home security. This compact lock is designed for easy, reversible installation on the inside of a door, fitting over the existing thumb-turn mechanism. Its primary feature is support for Matter over Thread, allowing it to integrate with platforms like Apple Home, Google Home, and Amazon Alexa without requiring a proprietary bridge, provided a Thread border router is available.
The lock is priced at £129.98, significantly undercutting its more premium sibling, the Linus L2. This makes it one of the most affordable Matter-over-Thread smart locks on the market. While it omits advanced features like DoorSense, which indicates if the door is fully closed, it retains essential smart lock functionalities such as digital key sharing and an activity log via the Yale Home app. For remote access without a Matter ecosystem, an optional ConnectX Wi-Fi Bridge is available for an additional £70.
Installation is straightforward, taking approximately 15 minutes, and it requires no drilling, making it suitable for renters. However, prospective buyers must verify door compatibility, as the L2 Lite works only with specific lift-to-lock mechanisms and requires at least 3mm cylinder protrusion inside. Yale has stated the lock launched in December 2025 and is available in black or silver finishes. The lock runs on three CR123A batteries, which Yale estimates last up to six months.
