Xiaomi has established a new benchmark for performance SUVs at the Nurburgring Nordschleife with its upcoming YU7 GT model. Achieving a blistering lap time of 7 minutes and 34.93 seconds, the electric SUV now holds the title for the fastest production SUV on the challenging German circuit. This performance surpasses the previous record holder, the Audi RS Q8 Performance, which recorded 7:36.698.
The historic lap was driven by Xiaomi's chief test driver, Ren Zhoucan, reportedly marking the first officially recorded Nurburgring lap by a Chinese driver. This achievement precedes the YU7 GT's global debut, building considerable anticipation for the new electric SUV.
Expected to boast a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system delivering close to 990 hp, the YU7 GT is anticipated to reach top speeds around 300 kmph. Powering this performance is likely a 101.7 kWh battery, with Xiaomi claiming a CLTC driving range of up to 705 km. The Nurburgring-spec vehicle featured track-focused modifications, including a roll cage and the removal of rear seats, part of an optional Track Package.
