Xiaomi Tag: Cheaper AirTag Alternative!
28 Feb
Summary
- Xiaomi's new tracker offers an integrated loop for easy attachment.
- It works with Apple Find My or Google Find Hub, but not both.
- Lacking UWB, it relies on audible alerts for locating lost items.
Xiaomi has entered the tracking market with its first Bluetooth tracker, the Xiaomi Tag. This device distinguishes itself with an integrated metal loop, eliminating the need for additional cases and allowing for immediate attachment to keyrings or carabiners.
The Xiaomi Tag offers flexibility by supporting both Apple's Find My and Google's Find Hub tracking networks. However, users must select one network during setup, as simultaneous use is not possible.
Similar to its competitor, the Xiaomi Tag is powered by a replaceable CR2032 coin cell battery, providing up to a year of operation. It also features an IP67 dust and water resistance rating, ensuring durability against environmental exposure.
A notable difference from Apple's AirTag is the absence of ultra-wideband (UWB) technology in the Xiaomi Tag. Instead, users will rely on audible alerts to pinpoint the location of a lost item once within range.
Positioned as a more economical choice, the Xiaomi Tag is priced at £12.99 (approximately $18) for a single unit and £44.99 (around $61) for a pack of four. This contrasts with Apple's second-gen AirTag, which costs $29 individually or $99 for a four-pack.
