Microsoft's new Xbox One S console, which became available on Tuesday, has undergone teardown analysis, revealing significant internal improvements. The console earned a high repairability score, indicating ease of maintenance.
A key upgrade is the inclusion of a 2TB hard drive and HDMI 2.0a connectivity, enabling support for 4K video playback. This revision also features an internal power supply, eliminating the need for an external brick.
Internally, the Xbox One S sports an overclocked 914MHz AMD Radeon GPU. Despite these enhancements, it retains the same AMD Jaguar 8-core system-on-a-chip CPU used in previous models.
The console is noticeably slimmer and incorporates mechanical buttons for better usability. Priced at $399, it is designed to bridge the gap until Microsoft's next-generation Project Scorpio console arrives. Importantly, the Xbox One S is fully compatible with all existing Xbox One games.
