Microsoft has revealed its next-generation gaming console, the Xbox One, set to launch later this year. This new device is positioned as an all-in-one entertainment system. Users can switch between games, live TV, and music using voice commands. The console also introduces Snap Mode, enabling users to multitask, such as watching TV while browsing the web.
Sports fans can expect fantasy stats to appear during live games, with exclusive NFL content promised through a partnership. Electronic Arts announced four new games for the platform, including FIFA 14, which will also launch on PlayStation 4. Microsoft Studios is preparing 15 exclusive titles for the Xbox One's first year, including new franchises and Forza Motorsports 5 at launch.
The Xbox One boasts an 8-core CPU, 8GB of RAM, and a 500GB hard drive, along with a Blu-ray drive and USB 3.0. The revamped Kinect sensor is now an essential, integrated part of the platform, capable of detailed motion and biometric tracking. Xbox Live will also see a significant expansion, supported by over 300,000 servers.
Microsoft addressed concerns about connectivity, stating the console is designed to be connected and always ready, but will still allow gameplay and media playback if the connection is lost. However, Xbox One will not be backward compatible with Xbox 360 games. More details are expected at E3 in June.
