X Photo Editor Integrates Grok AI for Edits
8 Apr
Summary
- X's photo editor now allows AI-powered text edits via Grok.
- New tools include blurring, redacting, drawing, and text overlays.
- The update aims to bring X's editor closer to dedicated photo apps.

X's photo editor has received a significant update, now allowing users to make edits through text prompts using xAI's Grok. This enhancement brings the platform's editing tools much closer to those offered by dedicated photo applications.
Users can now instruct Grok to modify images by simply typing requests. This feature is reminiscent of Google Photos' conversational editing capabilities. In addition to AI-driven edits, the updated editor includes tools for blurring, redacting, drawing on images, and adding text overlays.
Previously, Grok's image generation abilities were more open but were later restricted for paying subscribers due to misuse, including the creation of inappropriate content. These changes followed reports of millions of sexualized images being generated, some involving minors.
xAI is currently facing a class-action lawsuit alleging that user photos were used to create child exploitation material with Grok. Investigations by the European Union are also ongoing regarding similar reports of nonconsensual sexual image generation on the platform.
The updated photo editor is currently available on iOS, with an Android version expected soon.
