X Rolls Out Video Editor to Boost Original Content

X is actively shifting its focus towards fostering original video content to better compete with platforms like TikTok. This strategic pivot is underscored by the recent introduction of a video editor within its iOS application. This new tool empowers creators with features such as multi-language overlay captions and a green screen effect, aiming to enhance the quality and originality of content posted on the platform.

Nikita Bier, X's head of product, emphasized the company's commitment to providing creators with robust tools and offering rewards for their original work. This initiative follows previous updates, including a video reaction function and a $1 million payout pool for live streamers, all signaling X's ambition in the video-sharing space. The company has also reportedly reduced the visibility of reposts, explicitly recommending original video recordings with voiceovers to ensure "net new content."

Furthermore, an increase in original video content is expected to benefit X's AI efforts, such as the Grok chatbot, which trains on public data from the platform. While the Android app is currently undergoing a rebuild, the video editor's features are anticipated to become available on that platform as well. X plans to continuously update the video editor in the coming weeks.
