Microsoft has introduced substantial updates to Windows 11 in 2026, addressing user frustrations and enhancing its appeal with fresh features. Among the most notable additions is the 'Xbox mode,' a direct response to the growing popularity of Valve's SteamOS.
Upon activation, Xbox mode overhauls the PC interface by removing the traditional taskbar and adopting a controller-friendly design. This transitions users into a redesigned Xbox app, where their entire game libraries are readily accessible.
This significant feature began rolling out to Windows 11 PCs in May of 2026. Consequently, users who consistently install updates should now have access to it. The process for enabling and utilizing Xbox mode is not immediately intuitive, requiring a connected gamepad for optimal performance.
