Windows 11 Rolls Back AI Features
21 Mar
Summary
- Microsoft is reducing Copilot AI in apps like Photos and Notepad.
- User feedback is influencing Microsoft's AI integration approach.
- Windows 11 updates also add taskbar customization and faster File Explorer.

Microsoft announced significant changes to Windows 11, focusing on improving user experience by reducing AI bloat. The company is dialing back integrations of its AI assistant, Copilot, in applications like Photos, Widgets, Notepad, and the Snipping Tool. This decision stems from a growing consumer concern about AI over-saturation and a commitment to integrating AI only where it proves genuinely useful.
User feedback has been instrumental in shaping these adjustments. Pavan Davuluri, EVP of Windows and Devices, stated that the team has actively listened to community input over the past several months. This user-centric approach also led to previous delays, such as the AI-powered memory feature for Copilot+ PCs, Windows Recall, due to privacy concerns.
Beyond AI adjustments, Windows 11 is receiving other enhancements. Users will gain the ability to reposition the taskbar to the top or sides of their screen. Additional improvements include greater user control over system updates, accelerated File Explorer performance, an updated Widgets experience, and enhancements to the Feedback Hub and Windows Insider Program.
