Summary
- Windows 11 expands cross-device resume for apps.
- Users can now resume Spotify and Office on PC.
- Feature mimics Apple's Handoff functionality.

Microsoft is significantly improving Windows 11's ability to resume tasks across devices, extending its cross-device resume feature. This enhancement, recently entering the Release Preview testing phase, allows users to continue activities initiated on their Android phones directly on their Windows 11 PCs.
The improved functionality will enable users to pick up Spotify playback where they left off on their phone, as well as resume ongoing work in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint on their PC. Additionally, web browsing sessions started on a phone using Microsoft Edge can now be seamlessly continued on the desktop.
This feature is notably similar to Apple's Handoff, which provides continuity for tasks across Apple devices. Microsoft's initial cross-device resume support was introduced last year, and a prior iteration for Windows 10, codenamed Project Rome, saw limited adoption. The latest update also includes expanded MIDI 2.0 support and voice typing enhancements.
