Windows AI Reads Your Apps Securely
24 Feb
Summary
- AI can read app content without taking control.
- New Windows 11 feature aids user support visually.
- Optional feature is disabled by default in settings.

Microsoft is currently testing an innovative Windows 11 feature designed to enhance user support through AI integration. This new capability, tentatively named "Share any window from my taskbar with virtual assistant," permits AI assistants, such as Copilot, to access specific application windows displayed on the taskbar.
The AI assistant gains the ability to read the content within a shared window. This allows it to summarize information, provide context-sensitive suggestions, and offer visual guidance to the user. However, a critical security boundary is maintained, as the AI assistant is strictly limited to reading and support functions, unable to seize control of the application.
This user-centric feature is deliberately set to be optional and remains disabled by default to ensure user privacy and control. Windows 11 users can readily enable or disable this AI window-sharing functionality through their system settings, offering a transparent and manageable experience.
