Secret Proxy Traffic Found in White House
5 Nov
Summary
- White House network traffic linked to proxy services.
- A streaming app may be secretly routing user traffic.
- Proxy services can be used by cybercriminals to hide activities.

Evidence has surfaced indicating that White House staffers might be using a Windows application loaded with residential proxy services. These services are known to sell IP addresses, which can be exploited by cybercriminals to mask their hacking activities. Cybersecurity firms have uncovered that numerous residential proxy services appear to have access to the White House's network.
This activity was first identified by Layer 3 Intel, which observed internet traffic exiting the White House network via at least 28 known residential proxy services. The timing of this traffic, primarily occurring in the evening hours, suggests a human element rather than a public network. Another company, Synthient, linked some of this suspicious traffic to Rave.io, a streaming app that reportedly includes 12 proxy-related SDKs. This connection is notable as some proxy services involved have ties to individuals previously linked to Russian intelligence operations.
