Western Australia is progressing towards a digital future, with plans to introduce digital driver's licenses and a state digital identity by late 2026. These digital credentials will be conveniently accessible through the Service WA app, as well as standard Apple and Google digital wallets. This significant technological advancement is backed by a substantial investment of $28.2 million, allocated in the upcoming May budget.
Assistant Transport Minister Jess Stojkovski has emphasized that the new digital identification will be optional for residents. She clarified that the government has no intention of discontinuing physical driver's licenses, ensuring that traditional identification methods will continue to be available for those who prefer them.
