Vivo X300 Ultra: Add-on Lenses Redefine Phone Photography

Vivo's latest smartphone, the X300 Ultra, elevates mobile photography with an expanded camera system that includes two 200MP sensors. This device introduces an innovative accessory ecosystem, highlighted by add-on teleconverter lenses offering 200mm and a new 400mm focal length. These lenses, along with a specialized camera grip that doubles as a power bank and provides enhanced controls, aim to bridge the gap between smartphones and dedicated cameras.

The included camera grip offers a shutter button, zoom lever, and other controls, aiding in stabilized video recording, particularly beneficial for users with hand tremors. The add-on lenses attach via a simple rotate-and-lock mechanism, activated through the phone's camera app. The 400mm lens, for example, captured detailed panda shots with pleasing bokeh, while the 200mm lens aided in focusing on moving subjects.

Vivo has also refined its video capabilities, improving LOG recording with a higher bitrate and offering one-tap color grading. The new image processing pipeline aims for more natural-looking photos by reducing digital oversharpening. While the Vivo X300 Ultra is currently only available in China, the release of the similarly specified Oppo Find X9 Ultra globally on April 21 suggests growing advancements in flagship mobile camera technology from Chinese manufacturers.
