Visa's AI agents to shop for you

Visa has unveiled Intelligent Commerce Connect, a new platform designed to facilitate next-generation shopping powered by AI agents. This unified system allows businesses to integrate once with Visa's network, enabling AI agents to interact directly with merchant systems, compare products, and automatically complete purchases. The platform supports secure payments, tokenization, spend controls, and authentication.

Intelligent Commerce Connect is compatible with emerging AI commerce protocols, enhancing its flexibility. AI agents can utilize both Visa and non-Visa cards for transactions, offering businesses greater choice. Merchants can also create AI-discoverable catalogs to simplify product evaluation by these agents.

This strategic expansion shifts Visa beyond a traditional payment network into a foundational infrastructure for commerce, even without direct human involvement. Competitors are also advancing in this space; Mastercard introduced Agent Pay for secure AI transactions, and American Express is developing an Agentic Commerce Experiences developer kit. These initiatives signal a significant evolution in how transactions will be conducted.

Visa's fiscal 2026 earnings are projected to increase by 11.9% year-over-year. Currently, Visa trades at a forward price-to-earnings ratio of 22.49, which is higher than the industry average of 16.12. The company holds a Value Score of D and a Zacks Rank of #3 (Hold).
