New legislation in Vietnam, effective February 15th, now requires online advertisements to be skippable after a maximum of five seconds. This move is intended to protect the public from excessive screen time and misleading promotional content on platforms like YouTube.
The amendments stipulate that static ads must be immediately cancellable and platforms must provide clear, single-click options for closing ads. Furthermore, the law targets misleading symbols used to confuse users trying to close advertisements.
Additionally, tighter regulations have been introduced for advertising 11 groups of goods and services that directly impact human health and the environment. This includes stricter controls on promotions for items such as cosmetics, food, and pharmaceuticals.
