Vertu, a brand with roots in luxury Nokia phones, has announced the AlphaFold, a new smartphone aimed at business executives. Launched on Thursday, the device features the Hermes Agent, an AI assistant capable of handling schedules and tasks, and connecting to enterprise systems. This move aligns with the growing trend of AI integration in smartphones, following similar offerings from companies like Google and Samsung.
The AlphaFold showcases high-end specifications, including the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset from 2025. It has a folding design, measuring 11.8 mm thick when folded and 5.4 mm when unfolded, with a hinge tested for 650,000 folds. The device is powered by a 6,500-mAh silicon-anode battery, supporting 65-watt fast charging.
Vertu, originally a UK-based luxury phone maker, has undergone several ownership changes and now has its head office in Hong Kong, with phones assembled in China. Despite this, the company maintains its claim of a British heritage and emphasizes that its phones are still handcrafted using premium materials, such as Italian calfskin.
