- Inventec's VeilBook features a 14-inch display and thin chassis.
- Movable keyboard slides to reveal touchpad and improve airflow.
- Design prioritizes cooling but restricts touchpad use.

Inventec has unveiled the VeilBook, an experimental laptop concept focused on enhanced cooling through an unconventional design. This ultra-thin device, measuring less than 10mm, features a movable keyboard that slides across its surface.
In its default configuration, the keyboard covers the touchpad. However, it can slide backward, exposing the touchpad and, more importantly, revealing ventilation openings above the internal cooling fans. This design aims to increase airflow, thereby mitigating thermal throttling during intensive computing tasks.
The innovative cooling strategy comes with a trade-off: optimal cooling performance requires the touchpad to be hidden. Users would need to rely on keyboard shortcuts or an external mouse for navigation. This design has garnered industry attention, receiving an iF Design Award.
Despite the recognition, Inventec, typically an original design manufacturer for other brands, has not indicated plans for a retail release of the VeilBook. The concept appears to be an exploration of alternative laptop layouts rather than a response to a widespread issue.
