15 Apr
Summary
- Unitree's R1 humanoid robot is now available internationally.
- The R1 model is priced around $8,150, with a cheaper version at $6,800.
- The launch expands Unitree's global reach against competitors like Tesla.

Unitree Robotics has initiated sales of its most budget-friendly humanoid robot, the R1, via Alibaba's AliExpress platform. This strategic expansion targets international consumers, including those in the United States, Canada, Japan, the United Arab Emirates, and Singapore.
The R1 model comes with an approximate price tag of $8,150, including import duties, with free shipping to the US. A more compact version is offered at around $6,800. This aggressive market entry positions Unitree to compete directly with Tesla's developing Optimus line in the US, Tesla's home market.
The robotics specialist, recognized as a leader in China's humanoid development, is also preparing for a substantial initial public offering on Shanghai's Star Market. Unitree's global sales efforts are bolstered by Alibaba's increasing focus on promoting Chinese goods overseas.
Chinese robot manufacturers significantly led global shipment volumes in 2025, surpassing US competitors. Unitree had previously launched the R1 in July of that year, starting at $4,900 for the R1 Air, establishing a new benchmark for affordability in the sector. The company, backed by prominent investors, reported a more than 300% revenue surge last year due to rising demand.
In related developments, Alibaba itself has announced plans to enter the robotics market by developing and selling its own four-legged robot, which would contend with Unitree's existing Go series.
