Once these high-risk locations are pinpointed, police will be able to target them with additional resources, including increased patrols and visits to the homes of known offenders. According to Science and Technology Secretary Peter Kyle, the system will draw on a wealth of data, including criminal records, previous offense reports, and the behavioral patterns of known offenders. By incorporating this information, the AI-powered model can become more accurate over time, allowing authorities to stay one step ahead of criminal activity.
While some have raised ethical concerns about the use of algorithms to predict crimes, the government has assured that the crime map will only utilize official data and be subject to human oversight.
