30 May
Summary
- UK banks cannot yet access Anthropic's advanced AI.
- Governor Bailey calls for international cyber defense cooperation.
- AI tool identifies unknown software bugs for better security.

British banks are currently experiencing a lockout from a cutting-edge AI tool developed by Anthropic, which is intended to enhance their cybersecurity defenses. Governor Andrew Bailey of the Bank of England highlighted the critical need for these institutions to gain access to the technology, stating that banks are currently employing other AI models to evaluate their cyber resilience.
The AI tool, named Mythos, is capable of automatically identifying novel software vulnerabilities that could otherwise leave companies exposed to significant cyberattacks. This specialized access, part of a phase known as Glasswing, has been anticipated for approximately six weeks but has not yet commenced.
Bailey suggested that the delay may be linked to processes involving the US administration. Speaking at a conference in Reykjavík, Iceland, he strongly advocated for a multinational strategy to combat cybersecurity threats, asserting that the extensive reach of cyber risks necessitates a unified international effort for mitigation and response.
