Summary
- Uber and Waymo have ended their self-driving partnership in Phoenix.
- Uber is preparing to launch a new autonomous vehicle collaboration.
- Waymo vehicles from the pilot are back in its own Phoenix fleet.

Uber and Waymo have officially ended their self-driving vehicle partnership in Phoenix, Arizona. This development comes as Uber gears up to launch a distinct autonomous vehicle collaboration within the same city, though a new partner has not yet been named. The previous partnership, established in 2023, involved integrating Waymo's autonomous cars into Uber's ride-hailing and delivery services.
According to a Waymo spokesperson, the vehicles used in the Phoenix pilot program have been successfully reintegrated into Waymo's operational fleet in the city, where they continue to be accessible via Waymo's app. Uber characterized the Phoenix deployment as an "intentionally limited" initiative involving just over a dozen vehicles.
This separation follows a recent recall by Waymo of nearly 3,900 robotaxis across the United States due to a software issue. The vehicles were susceptible to entering closed freeway construction zones. Meanwhile, Waymo's autonomous vehicles continue to be available through Uber's platform in both Austin and Atlanta.
