Threads Unveils Customizable Communities to Rival X

On October 3rd, 2025, Instagram's Threads platform has unveiled a new Communities feature, enabling users to connect over shared interests. This addition comes as Threads aims to rival its competitor, X, which has offered a similar community-based experience for some time.

The Communities feature on Threads allows users to search for and join public spaces centered around specific topics, such as books, K-pop, and sports like the NBA. When a user joins a community, a label will be displayed on their profile, and posts from that community will be highlighted in their feed.

One unique aspect of Threads' Communities is the customizable Like button. Unlike the standard emoji used across the platform, each community will have its own distinct emoji as the Like button, further reinforcing the sense of collectivity among members.

To incentivize user engagement within these communities, Threads plans to introduce special badges for the top contributors. These badges will be awarded to the most active users and those who have helped establish the most popular discussion topics on the platform.
