15 Nov
Summary
- Tesla launches stripped-down, lower-priced Model Y and Model 3 trims
- New models offer same design and driving experience at lower cost
- Aimed at making Tesla ownership more accessible to wider audience

In a move to make Tesla ownership more accessible, the company has launched stripped-down, lower-priced versions of its popular Model Y and Model 3 electric vehicles. As of November 15, 2025, the new Model Y Standard Rear-Wheel Drive starts at $39,990, while the Model 3 Standard Rear-Wheel Drive is priced at $36,990.
These more affordable trims maintain the core design and driving experience of their higher-end counterparts, but eliminate some features that most owners rarely use. The Model Y Standard, for example, uses one fewer battery module, is 5% more efficient, and features a simplified interior with manual seat and mirror adjustments.
The goal is to bring the Tesla ownership experience within reach of a wider audience. With the average new vehicle transaction price in the US sitting at $49,077 as of June 2025, and electric vehicles costing $57,245 on average, these new stripped-down models could be a game-changer for first-time EV buyers.
