Tecno's Modular Phone: A Camera Revolution?

At Mobile World Congress 2026, Tecno showcased a groundbreaking concept phone featuring a modular design. The core device is a slender Android smartphone with connectors for interchangeable modules, enabling it to adapt to various user needs. Among the displayed accessories, a prominent zoom lens module garnered significant attention. This module includes a substantial image sensor and physical controls, effectively converting the phone into a dedicated compact camera, with its screen serving as the viewfinder.

The phone unit itself is designed to be slim, requiring only essential components and a compact battery. The concept relies on external modules, such as the camera unit, extended battery packs, or other accessories like a wireless microphone or a speaker, to enhance functionality. While Tecno demonstrated a 3x camera lens and other accessories, they emphasized that this remains a concept, with no immediate plans for a market release, echoing past MWC concepts that did not materialize.
