19 May
Summary
- 37% feel technology advances faster than they can keep pace.
- 12% struggled to contact their GP due to online processes.
- Only 19% of those with health needs use managing apps/devices.

A significant portion of adults, approximately four in 10, report feeling exhausted by the constant evolution of technology. Research indicates that 37% of people believe technology is progressing too quickly for them to keep up, resulting in feelings of being overwhelmed rather than excited by change.
This technological fatigue can lead to practical difficulties. For instance, 12% of adults have found it challenging to connect with their GP due to online-only procedures, and 6% have experienced disruptions accessing their bank accounts. Furthermore, 5% have incurred penalties for missing online deadlines. When encountering new apps or devices, 41% admit to feeling confused or apprehensive about potential errors.
Despite the availability of health management apps and devices for conditions like diabetes and asthma, only 19% of eligible individuals utilize them. A quarter of non-users believe these tools won't make a difference, while 13% lack the confidence to start. Consequently, 18% experience increased anxiety about their health. Encouragingly, those who do use these technologies report benefits such as greater control, easier symptom tracking, and improved confidence. Some even express regret for not adopting them sooner.
