Tamron has introduced the Tamron-Link, a new USB-C dongle designed to provide wireless control over compatible lenses. This accessory connects to mobile devices and laptops, allowing for remote customization and control of camera lens functions. Initially, the dongle supports 16 Tamron lenses across Sony E, Nikon Z, and Canon RF mounts, with plans for future firmware updates to expand compatibility.
The Tamron-Link works in conjunction with the Tamron Lens Utility app, which is available for both mobile and desktop platforms. This app empowers users to enhance their shooting experience, particularly for video production or precise still photography. Advanced features include setting focus point markers and adjustable transition times between them, facilitating automated focus pulls. Additionally, users can electronically limit the focus range to prevent unwanted background sharpness.
Beyond specialized functions, the app also offers customization for basic lens operations. Users can alter the direction of focus and aperture rings, choose between linear and non-linear focus ring adjustments, and reassign functions to lens buttons. While firmware updates over Bluetooth may take slightly longer, they offer a more convenient, cable-free process. The Tamron-Link dongle is now available for $50.
