Robotics startup Sunday has announced the successful closure of its Series B funding round, securing $165 million and achieving a valuation of $1.15 billion, thereby reaching unicorn status. This significant investment was spearheaded by Coatue Management, with participation from other notable investors including Tiger Global, Benchmark, and Bain Capital Ventures.
The company, which emerged from stealth mode late last year, is focused on bringing a household humanoid robot named Memo to life. Memo is envisioned as a domestic assistant capable of performing tasks such as laundry and clearing tables.
Developing such a sophisticated humanoid robot has been a long-standing challenge in the field, primarily due to the complexities of training AI to reliably grasp diverse objects. However, advancements in AI technology are paving the way for new robotic solutions, and Sunday aims to be at the forefront of this innovation with Memo.
