Global medical device manufacturer Stryker has experienced a significant cyberattack that has disrupted its worldwide networks. The incident, which began shortly after midnight on the US East Coast on Wednesday, impacted Windows-based devices connected to the company's systems. Stryker, a Michigan-based company with revenues exceeding $25 billion and products reaching over 150 million patients annually, confirmed the disruption to its Microsoft environment.
An Iran-linked hacking group known as Handala has claimed responsibility for the cyberattack. The group stated the attack was in retaliation for a strike on a school in Minab, Iran, and warned that it signifies "the beginning of a new chapter in cyber warfare." Handala also claimed to have seized 50 terabytes of company data. Simultaneously, the group claimed an attack on payments company Verifone, which denied any service disruption. This event occurs amid heightened threats from Iran against Western economic targets.
