Steam Deck's Cloud Sync: Never Lose Progress!
30 Jul
Summary
- Dynamic Cloud Sync uploads saves when Steam Deck suspends.
- This feature allows seamless progress transfer to PCs.
- Developers must manually enable this new cloud sync feature.

Valve has announced a new feature for Steam's cloud saves called Dynamic Cloud Sync, designed to enhance the Steam Deck experience. This system automatically uploads modified save game data to the cloud when the Steam Deck is placed into suspend mode without fully exiting a game.
This functionality allows players to resume their games on a PC or another Steam Deck with their most recent progress intact. The Steam Deck will also download any save updates when it is woken up. This feature is anticipated to bolster the mobile gaming promises of the Steam Deck.
Developers will need to manually enable Dynamic Cloud Sync within their games, and an internet connection is required for it to operate. Without this feature, Steam will still track progress but will prompt users to properly close running processes on the original device to avoid losing save data when switching devices.
With the Steam Deck's launch in February 2022, this feature is expected to be a significant advantage. New reservations for the device were anticipated to be available after Q2 2022.
