Valve is releasing its new Steam Controller on May 4 for $99, offering a significant upgrade for PC and Steam Deck gamers seeking a more integrated living room experience. This wireless controller replicates the Steam Deck's control layout, complete with dual analog sticks, capacitive touchpads, and rear paddle buttons, enhancing gameplay immersion.
The controller boasts a unique wireless charging puck that attaches magnetically for easy power-ups and provides a dedicated, low-latency connection. It also features advanced haptic feedback and gyro controls, contributing to a premium feel that some find superior to the Steam Deck's built-in controls.
While the Steam Frame and Steam Machine VR headset and console are still slated for release this year, with pricing yet to be announced due to supply chain issues, the Steam Controller offers an immediate hardware enhancement. It transforms devices like the Steam Deck into more console-like experiences, even though the separately sold $79 Steam Dock may be required for optimal TV connectivity.
