15 Jul
Summary
- The new V5 Starlink dish is significantly lighter and smaller than its predecessor.
- Despite hardware upgrades, the V5 offers slightly lower maximum internet speeds.
- Power consumption is halved, making the V5 more energy efficient.

SpaceX has introduced its next-generation Starlink V5 dish, featuring significant hardware enhancements. The V5 prioritizes a smaller form factor and reduced weight, now weighing just 2.4 pounds, a substantial decrease from the 6.5-pound V4 model. This lighter design is expected to simplify installations.
While the V5 offers greater power efficiency, consuming 35-50 watts on average, it does not increase internet speeds. In fact, its maximum speed is slightly lower at 375+ Mbps, compared to the V4's 400+ Mbps. The dish is bundled with a Router Mini, which has a limited Wi-Fi range.
The Starlink V5 is now available in the United States for Residential customers, with availability expanding to additional areas as production scales. SpaceX has not yet announced pricing for the new model, but its compact design is already being hailed as a significant improvement for installers and users alike.
