Starlink Rentals Now Cost $10 Monthly
11 Jun
Summary
- Starlink now charges new US users $10 monthly to rent hardware.
- Purchasing equipment outright costs $200-$350 upfront.
- Rental customers cannot pause service; must cancel to stop.

Satellite internet provider Starlink has changed its policy, now charging new users a monthly fee to rent its standard hardware. Beginning on June 12, 2026, new customers in the United States will pay $10 per month for the Starlink kit, which includes a satellite dish and Wi-Fi router.
This marks a significant shift from Starlink's previous model, where equipment rental was free. Customers still have the option to purchase the hardware outright, with prices typically between $200 and $350, varying by model.
The hardware rental is exclusively for residential service plans and is limited to one kit per account. This rental option is currently available in select countries, with the US being one of them. A one-time activation fee also applies for rental plans, varying by region.
Customers who rent Starlink equipment cannot pause their service; they must cancel their subscription to cease usage. Additionally, renters have a seven-day period from delivery to return the hardware in good condition, or they risk being charged the full equipment cost. Starlink is a division of SpaceX, Elon Musk's space exploration company.
