Starlink Ditches Passwords for Passkeys
13 Oct
Summary
- Starlink now supports passkeys for account logins.
- Passkeys offer enhanced security over traditional passwords.
- Users can use Face ID, fingerprint, or PIN for login.

Starlink customers can now enhance their account security and login convenience by adopting passkeys. This advanced authentication method, officially available since October 2026, replaces traditional passwords with a more secure system.
Passkeys leverage private cryptographic keys stored directly on a user's device, such as a PC or smartphone. This eliminates the risk associated with easily stolen or guessed passwords. Authentication is streamlined, requiring only a PIN, fingerprint, or facial scan, making the login process faster and more resistant to phishing attacks.
Users can choose to set up passkeys as an optional feature, and their existing password remains active. Starlink emphasizes that it does not access sensitive biometric data like fingerprints or facial scans, as these remain on the user's device. This system complements the two-factor authentication added in 2024 to combat account hijacking.
Setting up a passkey involves visiting Starlink.com, navigating to Settings, and then Privacy & Security. Users can add up to 10 passkeys, which can be stored on their device or through compatible password managers like iCloud Keychain or Google Password Manager. Hardware security keys are also supported.
