The imposter, named King Lizard Wizard, released an album featuring tracks with titles and lyrics identical to the original band's work. This discovery was made by a Reddit user and pointed to significant delays in detection, as the fake album remained on the platform for weeks.

The incident raises serious concerns about the efficacy of Spotify's recently introduced measures aimed at combating AI-generated "slop" and impersonations. These policies, unveiled in September, included a spam filter and guidelines for disclosing AI use.
