Summary
- Sophia Space secured $10 million in seed funding.
- The funds will accelerate development of space-based computers.
- Orbital data centers are planned to operate in the 2030s.

Sophia Space has secured $10 million in seed funding, signaling significant investor confidence in its vision for orbital computing infrastructure. The company is poised to accelerate the development of its space-based edge computers and orbital data centers. This funding round, led by Alpha Funds, KDDI Green Partners Fund, and Unlock Venture Partners, validates the company's progression from conceptual designs to tangible hardware.
With this investment, Sophia Space will advance its proprietary thermal technology and expand its engineering workforce to design 'Tile,' the core component of its orbital data centers. These compute modules, measuring one meter by one meter by one centimeter, are designed for the harsh environment of space, incorporating patented arrays for efficient solar power generation and passive cooling.
Founded in 2023, Sophia Space, which previously raised $3.5 million in pre-seed funding in 2025, has ambitious plans. The company aims to deploy a constellation of orbital data centers by the 2030s. In the interim, Sophia Space will offer its 'Tile' compute modules directly to customers requiring edge computing capabilities in orbit, paving the way for the next era of space-based AI and data processing.
