Sony's New TV: Micro RGB Dazzles, But Costs A Fortune

Sony has unveiled its latest Bravia 9 II television, featuring an innovative Micro RGB display technology. This new panel promises to significantly outperform traditional OLED screens in both color accuracy and contrast, delivering a remarkably bright image. Initial tests show that while warmer colors like red and yellow can appear oversaturated, this is easily adjustable through various picture modes.

The Bravia 9 II's audio capabilities are also enhanced, with manual sound adjustments, Dolby or DTS processing for virtual surround sound, and Sony's Acoustic Surface Audio+ technology. This system uses actuators behind the screen, turning the entire display into a speaker for object-tracking sound.

In real-world tests, the TV showcased stunning color rendition, particularly in classic films and games, highlighting the Micro RGB panel's potential to redefine premium TV standards. However, its gaming features require refinement, with occasional issues in VRR synchronization impacting gameplay responsiveness.

Despite its visual prowess, the Bravia 9 II comes with a premium price. The 65-inch model is set at $3,500, with the 85-inch version costing $6,500. A colossal 115-inch model is slated for release later this year at $31,000. While the technology is impressive, potential buyers may want to wait for further firmware updates and price reductions.
