Sony Group Corp. has introduced its latest midrange 4K television, the Bravia 3 II, alongside new home theater audio products. This launch proceeds even as Sony is reportedly close to a deal that would transfer a majority stake in its home entertainment business to TCL Electronics Holdings Ltd. The new Bravia 3 II TV, priced between $600 and $3,100, features four HDMI 2.1 ports, a first for Sony, enabling high-refresh-rate gameplay for consoles like the PlayStation 5.
Sony also announced new audio products, including the Bravia Theater Bar 7 and Theater Bar 5 soundbars, with all new hardware scheduled to ship later this spring. In January, the companies announced plans for a joint venture where TCL would own 51% of Sony's home entertainment division. While negotiations are progressing, with a potential announcement this month, the joint venture is not expected to begin operations until 2027.
Concerns linger about the future of Sony's renowned Bravia image processing and upscaling technology if TCL gains majority control. The deal's finalization could impact long-term software updates and support for existing Sony television models, leaving consumers with questions about the evolving Bravia line.
