Sonos Inc. has unveiled two new consumer speakers, the Play and the Era 100 SL, signaling a strong return to hardware innovation. The Play, priced at $299, is a portable speaker designed as a modern and flexible upgrade for existing Sonos users. It features a 24-hour battery life, supports Bluetooth grouping, and can even function as a power bank for other devices.
The Era 100 SL, a $189 model, offers a more economical choice by omitting built-in microphones, making it suitable for users looking to add surround sound without voice control features. Both speakers are scheduled to go on sale March 31.
These launches suggest Sonos has successfully navigated the fallout from its 2024 app debacle. The company's CEO described the Play as a 'spiritual successor' to the popular Play:1, emphasizing its blend of modern features and portability. The new offerings underscore Sonos' strategy to promote its whole-home audio platform and encourage customers to expand their device collections.
