Summary
- Sonos planning a new product launch for September.
- New FCC filing suggests 'Ace Ultra' headphones are coming.
- Ace Ultra may feature AI capabilities and voice control.
Sonos is gearing up for a new product release in September, as indicated during its third-quarter financial call. Recent observations of an FCC filing suggest that a potential new product could be the 'Ace Ultra' headphones.
These headphones are anticipated to feature an over-ear design, similar to the original Sonos Ace released in 2024. The Ace Ultra is expected to come in five color options: Greige, Shadow Black, Agave, Blush, and Sand, expanding beyond the two colors of its predecessor.
The FCC filing also points to support for Sonos Voice Control. With Sonos CEO Thomas Conrad emphasizing AI as a core business strategy, the Ace Ultra might integrate with existing and future AI features.
This follows the troubled launch of the original Sonos Ace, which was affected by significant app problems in 2024. Issues included missing functionality and compatibility problems with the app redesign. The TrueCinema spatial audio feature was also delayed by a year.
The Ace Ultra is likely a precursor to more AI-integrated products from Sonos. The company believes its whole-home audio system offers a unique advantage in the AI-driven home market.
